Anthony Clarke

Senior Laboratory Manager

About Anthony

Birmingham born and bred, Anthony embarked on a career in science after an initial period of post-graduate research at the Medical School.

The bulk of his career was spent as a drug discovery and development scientist within the commercial sector, firstly for a generic company and then more extensively for the pharmaceutical giant Roche. He also spent a number of years at leading Contract Research Organisations throughout the UK, most notably and recently with Covance in Harrogate. However, perhaps the most exciting work experience came during the sabbatical Anthony took with his wife and three daughters in New Zealand, where he worked for a government testing agency.

Environmental Science and Research was based in Porirua, just outside the capital, Wellington, and provided scientific expertise to the community. Despite it being a brief tenure, the scope of the work was breath-taking, from running clinical toxicology tests to investigating lobster environments!

Anthony returned to Birmingham after an absence of 29 years having gained considerable experience of laboratory practice, including 15 years of laboratory management in high profile and well respected organisations. During that time, he acquired a broad knowledge of scientific techniques and principles and is now keen to share these with a new wave of scientists… along with his devotion to Aston Villa!
